So, sorry mum. I will get into the salon soon, but a bit of home dying in the meantime keeps me happy 🙂 and a ‘shiny haired haggis’ like the awesome Kel enjoys calling me! Kel is also a hairdresser, and her blog is brilliant and full of lots of hints and tips, and good banter of course. So pop on over and say hello if you haven’t already ♥
Now, onto my weapon of choice:
This is Garnier Herbashine in ‘Ice Mahogany Brown’. Costs about £6 from boots (wubbish memory, sorry) But I am a bit of a wuss to be honest, this is the only boxed dye I have ever used. This exact make, and this exact colour. About 10 times now! I’ll ponder about the shelves for a while, read a few boxes but always end up just picking this one up. It is semi permanent, and only needs to be on for 10 minutes. But once Ive added the tube to the bottle and shook it up, I then go into a mad panic to get it all on. When I did this the other day, its the first time in ages that my hair has actually been ‘long’ when applying it (well I say long, but to me my hair right now is the longest it’s been in ages) Sometimes I get David to help me do the back – he’s an awfy good boy.
First I have to wrap my blonde flash up in tinfoil to avoid getting it ruined. I have had this flash since I was 16, which is geekily where my username Rogue comes from. Rogue in X-men has blonde flashes down the front of her hair, and I guess at 16 I thought I was hella’ COOL making it my username for almost everything! (myspace, bebo, etc) And to this day it lives on in my twitter and formspring 🙂
Once it’s all on I can finally relax, but the actual getting it all on, from roots down to the ends, is a major stress for me. I flicked a tiny bit on the carpet and can’t get it out 🙁 I’m going to be in big trouble, anyone got a miracle stain remover suggestion? Here’s me hiding my guilty makeup-less face.
Once the 10 mins is up, you simply rinse, apply the conditioning lotion for a few mins, rinse again and hey presto! No need for shampooing. Heres the before:
And after:
The lighting in the above picture is much warmer, but you get the idea. It actually came out super dark on me this time, but I’m not too fussed 🙂
Here’s me shiny haired and caped up to the max for my dinner/cinema date with the boy last night. I have managed to keep my hair in pretty good condition despite having it dyed lots over the years. I’ve never had any ‘drastic’ changes mind you, my mammys watchful eye always making sure of that 😉 But even my blonde flash is in good condition. Has often made me contemplate WOULD I SUIT BEING ALL OVER BLONDE?!
Answer, No. Thank goodness for costume wigs. A year ago I attempted to do a little ‘hair history’ post, which you can have a nosy at here. Here’s my current go-to products to keep my hair shiny and happy:
Left to right, back row:
Aussie Colour Mate Conditioner
& Aussie Colour Mate Shampoo
I was my hair every day, so this combo is a godsend and actually makes my hair feel really clean, without lots of build up, If you know what I mean?! Would love to try the 3 minute miracle moist from Aussie too, heard lots of good things about it.
Batiste
My best friend for a freshening up on ‘inbetween’ days. Was an absolute godsend when we were travelling last summer! I know its not good to wash your hair every day, so whenever I can I try not to. And good ol’ batiste helps me still look presentable. Never been 100% keen on the smell though. Blush and Original are probs the best two for smell, if I had to choose.
Tigi Rockaholic Hairspray
Fave hairspray EVER! It smells and feels brilliant. When I have pennies I love to stock up on the matching shampoo and conditioner, but it is quite pricey.
Left to right, front row:
Bed Head Brunette Goddess Shampoo
I have combination hair, and since it is normally always coloured I try to go for colour friendly shampoos. I know the current Aussie ones I have are colour mate, but my mum got me this Bed Head mini in my christmas stocking so I’ll probs mostly use it at times like just now when my hair is freshly dyed.
Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
Currently having a battle between this and the Marrakesh Oil to the right. I asked my mum for some Moroccan Oil for my christmas, but she got me these two instead (The Marrakesh oil comes in a kit with a candle which when melted, the wax can be used as a moisturiser – wierd!) I know for a fact that she coulda got me a Moroccan Oil set for the price of getting me these two. But there you go, awkward woman that she is! Mother knows best eh 😉 Both have to be applied to damp hair, then blow dried/styled as normal. Yet to work out which one is better. Maybe I’ll just stay indifferent until I get my hands on some Moroccan Oil. Mmm hmm.
This is a picture of me and an old friend when we were 16. Thats my natural hair colour, and I’ll admit I do have extensions in… but my goal this year is to grow my hair as long as possible! I’m aware this length pictured would probs take much longer than a year. By which time I will have gotten very bored. But a girl can dream eh! Let’s see how I do, and if you have any hair growing secrets you can share with me then fire away 🙂
Also want to quickly mention that one of my best girls, Leah, has started blogging! She had a tumblr before, but has converted over to blogger. So I’d appreciate if you’d head on over and say hello. Shes a great girl and I know her blog is going to be super. Also got some items up for sale in my blog shop, including topshop, h! by henry holland, primark, and new look. Everything is under £6, so if you fancy a bargain then go have a peek! Happy weekend folks, lots of love.

The new colour looks gorgeous and your hair is so shiney!
January 8, 2011 at 11:36 amHope the dye comes out of the carpet ok…I used to dye my hair once a fortnight and still have bad memories of the mess and subsequent parental rage at finding that the bath had been dyed blue-black…

I think darker suits you best 🙂 I'd love to try blonde too but I know it wouldn't suit. Love the darker colour on you, look lovely in the cape!

Your hair is oh-so shiny! Sooo pretty! I'm mighty impressed you can save your blonde flash from being infiltrated with the darker colour!
I have been DIY-dying for about 18 years – I've been plum, cherry, spice orange, hot pink, bright red, bleach blonde, chesnut brown and now, black (soon to be orange!)
My only prefessional dye-job was going from bleached to chesnut – didn't want to risk sludge green!!
My hair's in pretty good condition, considering. I treat well too. I'm going to get some professional advice today about whether or not it will be possible to get rid of the black – if I do go ahead, I'll most definitely NOT attempt this colour change myself!!
Wish my mum was a hairdresser…
Thanks for sharing doll x

aww I think you really suit your dark hair, and I love the blonde shades through it. I've contemplated going blonde before but never had the guts to go through with it… Not sure I'd suit it xxx

Lovely hair to go with your lovely wee face! Love the super shine and the dark makes the blonde flash look much lighter too
You wouldn't look as bad as you think Blonde but dark looks more you.
Have a fabby weekend xxx

Your hair always looks so shiny and healthy! It's so cool that your flash is inspired by Rogue from Xmen! She was always my favourite in the cartoons when I was little and I loved her in the movies too.
My Mum used to be a hairdresser and she's exactly the same about keeping me from doing anything 'crazy' with my hair. Not that I ever would, I'm too much of a wimp!
January 8, 2011 at 2:12 pmLove the pics of you in the blonde wigs – I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Princess Peach costume is AMAZING! x

Wow! Your hair is super shiny! It looks great dark, it really suits you. 🙂
January 8, 2011 at 2:36 pmI home dye the flashes in my hair and without fail I will get dye on something! I also stained my bath pretty badly. I found the best thing for removing hair dye stains is nail polish remover! I've not tried it on carpet, but it worked on my bath and the wall. 🙂 xxxx
Jenny
Your natural color is so pretty too. I have a dirty blonde natural color, but I've dyed it red for the last six or so years. It's hard to try something different. I might try bangs with me next cut and color. Have a great weekend!

I amm so jels of your hair! It seems to be so much more manageable than mine 🙂 And that cape is AMAZING, where's it from? I love it! x

You look gorgeous in your pre-blog snap, love your cape and your hair really is crazy shiny, it's lovely!
January 8, 2011 at 4:21 pmI am growing my hair at the moment too but am so tempted to go and get extensions. I don't know anyone who;s ever had them so I have no idea if they'll be itchy and horrid or will look nice. If you get any 'hair grow faster' tips you'll have to share them with me!

Awww you're so cute as a baby! I've ever really thought about it when reading your blog but I love your hair! It's always in very good condition and you really suit the blonde flash. I wish could pull off having a flash of a different colour in my hair! x

Looks gorgeous :). Batiste has a new one called 'Brit' or something. It looks like a union jack flag. That actually smells fine 🙂

I have so much hair jealousy right now, it's so shiny and lovely looking! Damn you :P. I was worried about your blonde bits, I didn't think about foiling them away…duh! I know nothing about hair dye! Hope you find a way to get it out the carpet :(!
Ooh also…nice cape! 🙂 xo

Your hair is so healthy and shiny, the condition is fantastic considering you colour it, your mum has obviously helped you.
I'm a bit of nightmare now, always giving out advice whether people like it or not. Some lady got given my wisdom in Boots the other day. 🙂
Thanks for the mention you gorgeous lovely lady you.

Love that colour on you, the darker shade looks lush. I can't go too dark as it washes me out entirely, I used a 10 minute dye a couple of years ago and it went totally black (was meant to be medium brown!) – it looked dreadful!
Also the cape looks adorbs on you, tried it on as was transfixed by the price but it just did nothing for me. Boo. I still want a red one though!
I love the story of your blonde flash and why you've kept it so long, too! Yay Rogue!
January 8, 2011 at 9:59 pmMichelle
Wow, your hair's gone through loads of changes! I remember when I dyed my hair a bright crimson and I had to dye it once every two weeks to keep it looking awesome.
I love hair products though, you seem like you use loads.
Love your blog by the way, new reader here ♡

Your hair is so shiny! I think I need to re-henna my hair to get some great shine on it. It's been looking slightly lacklustre at the moment. What is the morrocan oil?
January 8, 2011 at 10:51 pmNicola
Gaaaaah I LOVE you as peach! Your costume is amazing!! I really want some Moroccan oil! Your hair looks so lovely and shiny – jealous! xx

Your hair looks lovely and is that a Paul’s Boutique bag I spy? 🙂
January 9, 2011 at 6:38 pmIts funny your little story about your username Rogue and getting the name from X-men, my username ‘pookie'(from when I was about 16 too) Came from a Koala teddy bear I had a little thing for (not so cool at all hahaha!) xx
Jen
Your hair is so wonderfully shiny! I can never get a good shine on mine, such a shame. Love your new colour. x

The superdrug own stuff is pretty sweet- usually 2 for £6. I use a reddy/brown stuff and my hair I swear has grown like a weed in the past year. It's probarly not in the best condition (years of home bleaching and being a mock punk will do that to a girl) but it's not half bad. The dark looks gorgeous though.

Thank you for following my blog Ayden, I love yours! So glad you popped up on my twitter (from no where!?). Congrats on the successful hair dying, I have to get my Mum (who unfortunately is not hairdresser) to do mine. I loved reading your 2010 post about everything you achieved last year. My word you were a busy bee! I am most interested and intrigued as to where you went travelling. I am thinking about going this summer or next and wondered if it'd be alright to ask you some questions about your experiences? It would be really helpful and very appreciated! Let me know how is best to contact you 🙂

If you find a miracle cure for hair dye spillages let me know! My mums bedroom door still has a red hand smudge on it from the days she used to dye my hair for me

Aww, that baby picture is SO adorable! Very pretty new hair! I'm thinking about dyeing my hair soon. I think the dark hair looks better on you. I love the name of your blog too!

i basically dye my hair every week (ironically did it again today haha) and am also a clumsy mare, so i have spilt much hair dye on rented flat carpets in south west london over my time and i absolutely promise you there is one way to get it out. i DROPPED a box of black hair dye on the carpet in my old rented flat…dropped(!aaaahrgh) and got it all out by using…dun dun dun…hairspray. get a cheap asda hairspray, cover the dyed carpet in it and then scrub with a scourer. if you do this twice it'll lift straight out. promise :).
January 13, 2011 at 12:30 amalso i really adore your blog, its always so positive and i love reading it xxxxx

I couldn't live without dry shampoo! The colour really suits you. Love your blog.

You're so good at coloring your hair!
January 18, 2011 at 5:47 pmI used to dye my hair all the time, but it would never come out as good as yours of course. I kinda miss doing that!
