An eclectic gift guide for grown ups

christmas tree robot

After some lovely feedback from my kids gift guide post, I thought I’d do a quick little somethin’ somethin’ for the grown ups. An eclectic mix to hopefully suit even the most challenging of recipients in your life! (here’s lookin’ at you, Dad) So, here goes, in no particular order…

For the pamper puss

I know some people don’t like the cliche of giving bath goods at Christmas, but I personally LOVE receiving them. Especially if it’s a slightly more expensive brand that you wouldn’t buy monthly in your toiletries restock. Shea Moisture have a huge, cruelty free selection of bath, body and hair options to suit a range of skin and hair types. So less “one size fits all” in terms of bathy-goodness gifting, and instead you have a variety of options at your disposal to really suit the person you are buying for. Recipe for a match made in heaven!

For the eco warrior

Not even an eco warrior, but just those who are interested in sustainable living and how that can be encorporated into your day to day routine. Nopla Store have some fantastic starter kits which are geared up to support a “no plastic” way of living (No-Pla, get it?) They have starter sets, cleanse sets, and hydrate sets – so something to suit everyone! You can also buy some of the items individually. As an added bonus for my readers, enter BRUSHROGUE at the checkout to receive a free bamboo toothbrush with your order.

For the tea Jennie

At the tender age of 21 I got “where there’s tea, there’s hope” tattooed on my arm – and that’s still a mantra I live by ten years later. Pukka have some wonderful sets on their site for tea related gifting, which are beautifully presented selection boxes containing an assorted mix of their most popular, individually wrapped teabags.

For Becky with the good hair

2020 was the year I started to embrace my wild waves, probably out of lockdown laziness rather than choice! Only Curls are on a mission to encourage curly haired girls of all textures to ditch the chemicals, forget the straighteners and start loving their natural curls. Lots of lovely christmas bundles and accessories over on their site.

For the wellness worshipper

Late 2020 finally saw my first foray into taking CBD oil, despite hearing for years how much it can help with anxiety and depression. I wish I had done it sooner! There are so many benefits of encorporating a CBD oil into your daily routine, and Thrive make it easy with their kickstarter dose bottle which is 500mg. Their formulation is cruelty free and vegan, comes in 3 strengths and 2 different flavours.

For the glow getters

There’s been more garden sunbathing than beach holidays this year, but for your friends who love to tan, Skinnytan have a selection of gift bundles perfect for Christmas. I’ve been using their notox face serum which I was sent for review, and it has a lovely gradual tanner built in (which is ideal for a little glow as I don’t bother wearing makeup to work these days!) You can also use the code NOTOXBEAUTY for 20% off this product. Also, a little shout out to my friend Kirsty who runs Studio Ides, who I bought the glittery studs in this picture from. Lots of gorgeous jewellery to choose from on her page, all hand made with love in Scotland.

For the graphic tee fans

It’s no secret that I LOVE a graphic tshirt. T-post have launched a super quirky subscription, where 35 Euros gets you a monthly surprise t-shirt delivered. Not just any old t-shirt – a wearable magazine – as each ‘issue’ carries a different story and theme printed on the inside. Just let them know your size, your address, and they do the rest. They’ve collaborated with some pretty cool artists and creatives so far, and I doubt that the “person who has everything” will have one of these limited edition t-shirts under (or over) their belt.

For the cocktail connoisseur

My local readers (Glasgow & the surrounding areas) can take advantage of 4 freshly blended cocktails including delivery for £29 from Social & Cocktail 2GO. They’ve also teamed up to McLeans Gin to create a “cocktail in a box”, which makes 4 cocktails and they are currently reduced to £24 from £30 so grab a bargain while you can!

For the music maestro

If you can’t quite justify Apple prices when it comes to wireless headphones, Sudio are an affordable and high quality alternative. Great sound, great battery life, and the TOLV (above) comes with a few different size options for the in ear buds, because ears come in all shapes and sizes. So it’s nice to be able to customise them for the perfect fit. You can grab 15% off at the checkout with code HELLOROGUE.

For a little extra bit of giving, rather than sending Christmas cards this year, would you consider donating that money you’d usually spend, to a local charity which is close to your heart? In previous years I’ve sent a donation to the SSPCA for the amount I would usually spend on cards. Another nice piece of news that landed in my inbox – Thumbs Up are currently asking for a £5 donation towards £30 charity gift packs, to distribute to those in need at christmas, in partnership with The Salvation Army and Great Ormond Street Hospital. I’m sure there are lots of similar initiatives being set up by local charities in your area if you have a wee google.

The stark reality is that 2020 has been a bloody tough year for a lot of people, with those already living on the breadline being pushed even deeper into poverty. So although coming up with a gift guide post is a “bit of fun” for me, I write it from a position of privilege and I know how blessed I am to have a roof over my head and food on the table. I do worry that posts like these feel a little bit off, tonally, after the the struggle 2020 has been for many. But I’ll take this platform and this opportunity to kindly suggest that if you are in the position to buy your friend or loved one a pressie, then please pop something in the food bank basket at the supermarket while you’re at it. Just one example of a little bit of help that can hopefully make a great difference for those in need.
