But I guess I’m okay with that. I have nothing to hide, nothing I’m frightened to be ‘judged’ on. Everything you read here is me, ‘straight up’, as it were. So on a very personal level, I’d like to welcome you into my new home…
Note: Doing what we can with rented accomodation!
This is our bedroom of course. The Hello Kitty Clock, Fenchurch Sign, and Lotso Bear are mines. David didn’t need too much convincing for us to buy some fairy lights 🙂
Opposite view. So good to have a wardrobe all to myself, makes such a difference being able to see my clothes out infront of me rather than being crammed together in a tiny space. We also have some storage boxes under the bed for jumpers, cardi’s etc. The rest of our shoes and all of our jackets are in a cupboard in the hall.
My little dressing up corner. Drawers containing all of my jewellery, and wicker basket underneath with hair stuff, straightners, hairdryer etc.
Davids ‘man drawers’! Haha we also have a side cabinet by the bed each. I’m not that mean girls, this space for his stuff suits him perfectly. Telly and dvd player for lazy mornings/night times in bed, a picture of us on David’s graduation day and my Spongebob pineapple house. The first present David ever bought me 🙂 Oh and my snowboard sitting chilling in the corner!
Our kitchen. Pretty self explainatory….
Mtv Cribs style – I should have shown you inside my fridge! The cute bunting was a present from the lovely folks at Hidden Away. They specialise in gorgeous handmade goodies, and were kind enough to offer to send me some of their cute bunting. I have been on the eye out for some nice homeware since I moved house, and £8 for some hand made, custom colour bunting is pretty awesome in my opinion. It’s very well made, every stitch perfectly in place and even though David said ‘it makes it look like were having a party’ I think it is really sweet! 🙂 (boys eh?)
Lots of worktop space for making a mess when we cook and bake. The two windows let lots of light into the room in the morning especially, it’s always roasting. We haven’t quite worked out what that little cupboard is for in the middle of the wall. It’s a bit odd. Prize for the funniest suggestion! :p
Wasn’t going to bore you with entrance hallway, main hallway, door shots, or cupboards (but exciting, we have three! to cram all of our junk into neatly…) But this is how the bedroom, living room and kitchen are laid out next to each other. I’m standing just outside the bathroom in this one. We have a few pictures hanging up in the hall, and the two you can see there are lovely tattoo dictionary prints my best girl Leah bought me.
Just your average bathroom! This is probably the room I like the least. Its pretty teeny tiny, but our landlord said if we disappear on holiday for a week he will rip it all out and modernise it. Which would be pretty awesome! So hopefully that can happen soon. It’s just so nice to have a bath again, after only having a shower in our old place.
The living room. We have a 3 seater couch, along with a 1 seater on the right and another 1 seater on the left by the window which you can’t quite see. It’s definitely been crowned as ‘my’ chair though. A bookcase with our books and cameras, habitat unit with dvd’s, couple of canvasses, David’s guitar and amp… That’s about it really! Not sure how well it photographs but it sure is cosy. Oh, and some more bunting from Hidden Away 🙂
Opposite view. The major thing I would change about this place is the carpets throughout 🙁 But until we own a home, there isn’t much you can do about things like this. Its not 100% perfect, and it’s hard to encorporate your own style into a rented home that is already half furnished and has it’s own kind of look going on. We tried to add in our own character and style as much as possible but finding it tough without it being a major clashfest! Even though this place is pretty neutral, we tried our best. Anyone else living in rented accommodation face the same kind of situation?
I don’t know how long we will stay in this house for. We love Linlithgow, and the location is pretty sweet (right next to the train station and a tesco, but quiet enough as it’s just hidden off the high street) I’ve had my eye on some pretty new builds in the area, but for a higher price and further away from the train station… I think we are maybe just better sticking with the place we have just now. Time will tell 🙂
Yesterday I had an awesome day at the Girls Day Out event at the SECC with some lovely fellow scottish bloggers, so I’ll be sure to share some more about that soon. Today I am going to Livingston Designer Outlet with David for a wander (and especially for a nosy at the Fred Perry store and the Cadburys shop – yum!) Then we are driving back to East Kilbride to see David’s family for a while, and then to Bishopbriggs to see my Dad, Julie and Max 🙂 This twitpic I posted of Max at easter had me in stitches – definitely one to show his first girlfriend and share at his 18th birthday. I also got my eyes tested again and due to a mega changed prescription ordered some new glasses. Click and let me know what you think of them, I know they look a bit mental/70’s newsreader in the picture but I’m hoping yous will think they look better in person. HATE having to choose things like that on my own, I’m awful. Anyways, hope you enjoy what’s left of the weekend 🙂 Lots of love as always,
Ayden x

Love your place, has a pretty cool style.
I'm in my own wee flat, Martin lives with his mum at the minute while he's clearing some debt, kindda sucks but kindda cool because I get to put my own style into my flat 😛
I've got a pretty easy going landlord, if I want a new carpet, curtains etc i've just to call him and he'll switch it up…I can't do it though, I'd feel terrible! I'm gonna start painting soon though, exciting!

My boyfriend and I have recently bought out own flat (we get the keys in 4 weeks and 5 days – totally NOT counting).
My favourite thing to do is go shopping for little bits and bobs for the house. I think I have spent quite a bit so far on it lol. I will take photos at some point to show the good old readers what I have purchased!
Your flat looks awesome by the way! Happy for you guys!

Ahhh.. ayden i love your pad. ignore the carpets girl it's the little bits that make it your own, i like the art you have around your place, that 'home sweet home' canvas is awesome when i get my own place i shall be making my own one of them! 🙂 How funny, i have the wardrobe in my room and my dave has draws! haha.

Your house looks lovely! I'm a big fan of the bunting you have 🙂 I have a feeling the cupboard is for spices? Bit like a spice rack maybe.
May 8, 2011 at 9:48 amYou could put big rugs that you both like everywhere, so the carpet is virtually covered up 🙂

Hey pal AWW I was at GDO on Friday doing some filming – cue an incredibly CRRRRRINGE piece to camera of me supping away on a cocktail, mmm! Who did you meet up with? Was a great event wunt it?

but the rug is awesome.
as for the cupboard in the kitchen,i was probably used as a spice rack/cupboard thingy.

1. Madam, let them judge is they so wish. Screw them.
May 8, 2011 at 11:13 am2. Straight up is by far the best way. One of the reasons I have few female friends is because I cannot stand the grey bits and this unspooken set of rules that I don't appear to know.
3. LOVE your place. I think I suffer chronic noseyness, I love looking into peoples bags/homes/wardrobes on their blogs. Loving your pictures/prints that are making your mark on the place and the location sounds pretty cushy for the time being.
4. New specs, love em. I wear my contacts most of the time so haven't bought any new glasses for ages but I love buying glasses. They're my litlle piece of designer that I allow myself.
5. Have a lovely day today, sounds like a nice sunday. I'm chained to my desk as my German Translation exam is 9am tomorrow (eeeek). Having to go to the gym though as I'm mega restless.
6. THANK YOU for your lovely comments this last week. You're a star!

I love these posts! I am so nosey!
Your house is fab, you've obviously done the best with it. I live in rented too and refuse to pay to update the big things like bathroom, although i have painted throughout.

Love your new hoose! There's only so much you can do with a rented flat, but I think you've done a grand job xx

Ah your place looks lovely, very 'homely' 🙂
May 8, 2011 at 11:46 amThe bunting is so cute & I love the anchor picture.
Have fun shopping and spending time with your families today xx

I loved this post. It must be my nosey side coming out. I actually read 'man drawers' in a deep manly voice.haha.
May 8, 2011 at 11:58 amI love the bunting. An obsession of mine at the moment. I love that you have it draped over Van Gogh paintings. Oooh and in the living room as well.
We own our house, and we find that though we want to do so much with ours, money will always be the issue. Though we have friends who live in rented accommodation who have to live with red swirly carpets with red pattered wallpaper in the same room! haha. Glad it's not me.
Really enjoyed this post.

Your place looks lovely! 🙂
I'm moving from boring bland university halls to a big room in a shared house next year so I'm definitely looking forward to more space to spread out, I'm loving the bunting you have so may have to look into some of that myself ha!
That mini cupboard is so strange ha! If it were mine, I think I know what I'd do: any time my parents went on holiday they used to buy those little house/building figurines they always have in souvenir shops of landmarks and things! I'd line them all up in there and it would be like a little world village. 🙂

Oh your place is lovely, it's so spacious! Compared to my tiny flat it's massive! Love all your little touches, and the bunting! x
May 8, 2011 at 12:12 pmMichelle
Oh Facebook is the source of all evil Ayden, you're not missing out at all 😉 Your bedding is lovely, and the fairylights are adorable! Your living room and kitchen are both so tidy! The rug is so sweet. You've definitely managed to put your own stamp on the flat despite it being rented! Waa so jealous of the meet-up, I seem to miss every meet-up near me because I'm constantly whizzing back and forth from home to Uni! xx

Your place looks so beautiful and cozy. I love what you did with a room. I've yet to really have a room and knickknacks to make the 'dream' room.
May 8, 2011 at 2:02 pmEloise
I speak to scottish people on the phones at work, and when I saw East kilbride and Bishopbriggs I thought "I know people that work there!" – that's just an insight into the tragic thinkings of my brain : /
Back to your post, your dressing up corner is so sweet! I love the little drawers you have, and the vw picture in your living room is awesome. I've got one similar (ish) but it's minis.
It is a bit restrictive renting isn't it? There's sooo may lovely wallpapers around and I want to decorate so badly, but instead look at white walls day in day out
xx
May 8, 2011 at 2:46 pmKLEE
firstly i absolutely adore the sheer amount of bunting you have in your house! haha amazing. looks so lovely and cosy though. i know what you mean about not feeling like a beauty/fashion/general blogger. i just write and post pictures and sometimes people read it? i think its probably the best way to 'blog' though tbh – otherwise you'll fall into a trap of feeling like you can ONLY write about certain things? which i imagine to be a bit shit. in conclusion, yep love this post. xx
May 8, 2011 at 2:47 pmHelen
Your kitchen is really great and big! All the places we've looked at have had pokey kitchens because I think they all assume people eat out or just cook ready meals these days. But I make A LOT of mess and need counter space to put my kitchenaid and magimix on!
We have been debating renting vs buying and now we're going back into buying because we want to be able to personalise things, like the kitchen & bathroom. And also paint & wallpaper! But i think you've done a grand job with your pad. I love the bunting! I have some bunting that I am dying to put up in our house when we move out but scott might not like that… I am constantly reading interior design blogs atm too for inspiration, I love posts like these!
May 8, 2011 at 3:50 pmfritha louise
So jealous! Your flat is amazing. I love the little personal touches you've added. I think I need to get myself some bunting! Love your living room rug too.
May 8, 2011 at 4:18 pmAnonymous
ah, your flat is lovely! I know how you feel when the place you live in rented so you can't make it fully your own.. its pretty annoying, but it looks like you've done a pretty good job with yours! :)) xxx ps. i love that bunting, so sweet:)
May 8, 2011 at 4:29 pmMartha
Your house is so lovely! I'm hoping to homemake with my boy soon but will have to wait a while and you've made me super jealous! 🙂 xxx
May 8, 2011 at 4:49 pmEmily
This post made me smile loads! Your flat looks so cosy, like how I would like a friends to look if I was popping round, warm and welcoming!
May 8, 2011 at 6:17 pmI hate the restrictions of putting your own stamp on a rented place, it's the thing we've struggled with most- having loads of ideas but having to tone them down and remembering it's nt actually your own flat! I think you've done really well though, it doesn't look at all bland but full of colour and little personal touches.
Hope you both really enjoy it there until you decide to move onto somewhere else 🙂 xxx

I definitely know where you're coming from, in that I am not a beauty or fashion blogger. I started out using the blog to show what goes on in running a small business so I also get nervous when I am posting pictures about myself or show a picture of me. I really enjoyed this post, though. You have a lovely place!
Keep rambling, we like that you're different from the rest! xxxx
May 8, 2011 at 6:58 pmFromGemWithLove
It is so hard to make a rented space your won when you can't do much to make it different, but you have done a grand job. A perfect balance of male and female influence. Lovely, lovely lovely. See you in two weeks. xxxxx
May 8, 2011 at 7:51 pmAnonymous
oh i know what you mean about blogging. i'm trying to incorporate other aspects besides beauty.. but bothers me if some people that don't really 'support' beauty blogging are reading and then just meh. its just a big ball of confusion on how i feel about blogging and privacy and such.
but anyways, your house is so cute, everything looks lovely! i love how its decorated, the artwork is lovely!! seeing this has made me really excited to move in with the boy next year
hope your well darling xx
May 8, 2011 at 8:07 pmCaroline
I really like what you've done with the place! All the bunting & the rug in the living room look awesome. One of the main things I always hated about renting was how little you could actually decorate for fear of losing your deposit. For me it never quite felt like home. Our last flat had the worst pictures up on the wall, including one of a bum in the bathroom… very strange! xx
May 8, 2011 at 9:05 pmJen
Completely understand your frustration with making a rented place feel 'yours'. Rob and I have been renting for a long time and I always find it tough to put my own stamp on a place where the walls are not the colour I'd go for, or there's a carpet rather than wooden flooring (I have a major thing about carpets too!).
Part furnished is hard too, as you're often trying to merge two styles together. Our current place is part furnished and some of the rented modern furniture looks odd next to my car boot sale pieces.
I think it's about adding your personal touch where you can. I love framed pictures (photos, art, canvases, whatever), quirky lamps, rugs, bed linen, lots of books, candles… I could go on!
Your home looks adorable. I'm sure you'll start feeling more settled soon. 🙂 xx

I think the cupboard is meant to be for the small slim spice jars you can get! x
May 8, 2011 at 10:26 pmLeah

May 8, 2011 at 10:30 pmYour posts always make me smile and your wee home is so "homey"
love you!! x

Aw your place looks amazing 🙂 I love how you have a snowboard! That's funny your bf has his 'man drawers' when I moved in with my bf we each got our own little wardrobe but slowly all of my stuff has moved into his as well and now he only has a tiny corner of one haha I feel bad. Should probably throw some stuff out! Hope you enjoyed your planned trips, I must pop out to Livingston sometime, sounds good! xx

Your flat looks gorgeous. Quite jealous of the size of your kitchen though – mine is like a tiny corridor with no room to make mess when baking :(.

I love your place! Everything is so tidy! I can't wit to have my own place so I can add my own touches to it. I love how your place is quite modern but also has a nice homely feel to it!
May 10, 2011 at 8:54 pmCarol
Your place looks great…I have lived in some truly awful places! Myself and my OH live in rented accommodation just now in Glasgow and a fairly modern flat which luckily was pretty much decorated to our tastes (blk leather couch, red rugs etc) but it does annoy me that we can't alter it too much. They won't even let us get Sky plus!!

I love your flat, it's just lovely – has such a nice feel to it and it's so light and bright which always makes such a difference. Particularly jealous of your kitchen; it's massive! Definitely lots of room for making a mess when baking! Love the bunting too – I have a few strung up in our house but Tom complains he doesn't 'get it' – he says he doesn't know what it's for – which is a fair point I suppose! Haha 🙂 So glad you enjoyed your little package – you are very welcome!

im not supposed to be looking at blogger let alone commenting over the next week but i had to come and have a nosey at your house when it popped up on feed! ayden your house is beautiful. i obviously LOVE the bunting! is that cupboard in the middle meant to be for spices? i cant think of anything funny to put in it though. thanks for sharing your lovely house with us xx

Your place looks absolutely awesome. I´ve got some issues with where me and my fiancé live as well as it is not our place and I feel awkward investing money into a place that isn´t and is never going to be ours. But I literally cannot wait for me to finish uni, get a job and for us to afford to get a mortgage and get our own place at some point. I´ve got so many ideas and can totally imagine what I want our future flat/house to look like.
Anyway, though, your place is great. It feels really kinda home-like or at least as far as pictures can tell. I like that you have quite a lot of stuff kinda all over the place – I hate flats that are like too sorted out, if you know, what I mean. That kinda feel like no one actually lives in them. Not your case at all so clap clap, you´ve done a great job decorating it.

Holy crap, your flat is HUGE! I'm looking for a new one in the east end right now and they're all like little cupboards 🙁 You've decorated so nicely! It can be so hard to put your own style on a rented place but you guys have done it perfectly.
May 30, 2011 at 3:44 pmI think that tiny cupboard is probably for spices, but you should totally try to find mini versions of stuff like teapots and little cups to put in it!
