Unfortunately they have developed what appears to be ringworm or cheilitis ๐ and since applying the oinments the vets gave me for them have been really irritable and snapping at each other. They have been okay up until now, and the people at Pets at Home seem to think the (now quite serious) fighting could be because they are feeling a little under the weather. I have been so upset, worried it is something we have done. Ringworm can also be passed onto humans, so the piggies are going to go into isolation at the vets for a while to be treated and their behavior monitored further, before we can decide if they need to be separated for good. Alfie is finally standing up to his more dominant brother, rather than giving in like usual. Sources online tell me that females can fight just as much as males, and getting them neutered will make no difference โ itโs just down to their characters and luck of the draw on whether we have paired a compatable couple. Sorry for the rant, but these wee boys are breaking my heart and I just want whatโs best for them so fingers crossed it works out okay ๐
Now itโs time for less words, and an absolute mountain of pictures (you have been warned) of mine and Jennโs awesome trip to Alton Towers and Blackpool last weekend. It was a long journey, but a brilliant wee adventure and Jenn did so well doing the whole drive herself. Iโll let the pictures do the talkingโฆ
First set of pictures was the few I took on my SLR (was too paranoid about it being nabbed from my bag out the cages at the bottom of each ride) Second mosaic is a selection of pictures from Jenns Iphone, and the last set is of course the ride photos we bought ๐
Alton Towers was amazing, was the first time Iโd been and I canโt wait to go again (even though the 5 hour drive meant leaving at the absolute crack of dawn) I have never been a major fan of rollercoasters, but we went on literally everything and Iโd have to say that Air and 13 were my favourite ๐ We also went in the single rider queue quite a few times, and although it meant us not getting to sit together on some rides it did make our wait time for each ride about 20-30 mins max! Considering it was a saturday, I think we did pretty well and managed to get on everything we wanted to.
On saturday night we drove up to Blackpool and checked into our little b&b. The room price included a full cooked english breakfast the next morning, which was awesome! We toddled along to the pleasure beach for it opening, and it was so quiet the whole day. I donโt think the weather helped, but we didnโt stop laughing all day, and the RIDICULOUS ride pictures (note, ginger jedward in the first one!) had us in absolute stitches! I was far too scared to put my hands in the air properly, so it looks like I have jazz hands on a few of them. I also won a giant spongebob ๐ We got soaked on Valhalla, ate the best hot donuts I have ever tasted, and I got the fright of my life on the Pepsi Max and the Tango Ice Blast. Both went up so bloody high, and Iโd say the feeling of being not totally secure was the most frightening part. I have certainly faced my fear of any sort of rollercoasters however, and canโt wait to visit more theme parks in the future. Best wee road trip ever (Jenn, if youโre reading this, I love you so much dude!)
Rant over guys. Iโll keep you updated on the piggies, and this weekend I get to go have tea and cake with one rather awesome lady who I think a few of you might already know ๐ Have a fab weekend whatever youโre upto โฅ

wowww, it looks like you had an amazing time, gotta love alton towers! ๐ i love air! pics are all fab!
shame to hear the boys are scrapping ๐ this happened with my dwarf hamsters & we had to put them in seperate cages. charlie was the more picked on brother, and even though it was sad to see them seperated, it was really nice to see him fatten up & start enjoying life! so just remember that even if they need to be kept apart, it is for the best ๐ hope it all turns out okay though and you have them back soon! xxx

I love roller coaster pictures!
Sorry about the ringworm. I actually picked it up from the student gym. It's a real bitch to take care of on both humans and animals. Patience and diligence is key.

Oh no, poor piglets! I've been lucky with all the ones I've had (though all of mine have been girlies) although they sometimes have a nibble, and one has quite a few bits out her ears – she annoys the others! Maybe they'll sort themselves out at settle down? Poor little things being ill too. Baby bird has just gone for its second night sleep, lets hope he wakes up tomorrow! The theme park looks awesome, I'm a complete wuss but the pictures are hilarious! xx

Hi Ayden, so sorry to hear about your piggies!
May 21, 2011 at 1:00 pmI know this is no use to you now but in future I wouldn't recommend you buy pets from Pets At Home – my mum is a vet and sees so many animals which are sold too young or sold ill from Pets At Home, or are bought from 'bad breeders' by Pets At Home for resale. And (no offence meant to anyone who works at Pets At Home) but the majority of people they employ will have little or no experience or knowledge of animal health and welfare. It's unfortunate but because they are such a huge company they don't 'care' about the animals as long as they get sold. And that isn't a gripe at the individual workers because I have friends who work there and I know they do care about the animals, but often they won't know anything about the animals' history or what signs to look out for with illness etc, as well as keeper tips (such as not buying two males! ๐ )
Neutering can often help with the fighting but might not, it's definitely worth the try though as it's a low-risk procedure. I have a male and female living together and they are fine, but I once had two brothers living together, one of whom nearly killed his brother. So so sorry to hear your pigs are poorly as well as fighting – it's never nice <3 I really hope it gets better for you. If you want any advice (I'm probably useless but can always ask my mum for you) then feel free to ask ๐ xxxx

Oh I do hope that the piggies get better soon and stop fighting! It sounds horrible but I guess even guinea pigs can't get on with everyone! Hopefully they will settle down and you won't have to keep them seperate.
I love all of your photos, looks like you had a brilliant time! I'd love to go to Blackpool! Alton Towers is pretty brilliant, the rides are amazing! Though I do have a soft spot for Thorpe Park.

Poor piggies! ๐
Hopefully the fighting is just down to them feeling ill, though maybe having cages won't be too bad. You can have a bit of fun designing them new homes every time you clean them out. I speak of course from bloody experience (literally) because even though we got two male dwarf hamsters of the most placid breed, we were unlucky enough to get two alpha males who tore chunks out each other.
But they were so much happier once they got their own space! Was like two new hamsters! Don't worry, they will be happy piggies again soon, one way or another.
Your photos are hilarious ๐ Love ya LOADS, see you on Monday Xx
