Jewellery Shaped Things

Supporting indie designers and small local businesses – all in the name of unique and handmade crafts, is something which I hold very close to my heart. In Glasgow, we have the girls at We Are Made In The Shade, who showcase design, neo-craft and vintage lifestyle. And have revamped a small square in the Barras market with their saturday event ‘Supermercado’ – full of fellow awesome and likeminded vendors! Another local lovely is Hannah Zakari, which is an independant boutique (online and with their very own shop in Edinburgh) and their emphasis is ‘specialising in items which are designed or handmade by indie designers with an emphasis on cute, quirky and unusual designs’ C’mon, you gotta love it 🙂

More and more recently I have noticed that many fellow bloggers also craft on the side and sell their unique items on sites like Etsy, Folksy and Ebay. Victoria, Robyn, Kel, and Beth are all super talented and creative ladies who I have discovered also make jewellery and accessories on the side 🙂 I tweeted this morning to get the feelers out and see if any more of you girls also craft and sell – so if I have missed you out please email me! I think we are lucky to be part of such a creative little community, and supporting each other is very important.

When the awesome Sarah from S.B.V got in in touch and told me she had made a new etsy and started making jewellery again, I was keen to go have a little nosy and I was so pleased with what I saw.

“I wish I lived in a time when people wore matching hats, coats and gloves. I have to settle for making sure I’m always well accessorised.

I started making jewellery because I got tired of the stuff on the high street not being QUITE right. So I make jewellery that I would want to wear – and hopefully, you’ll like it too. I source my charms and beads from all over – ebay, thrift stores, the high street and bead shops”

D’awww!

Beautifully gift wrapped, Sarah sent me ‘You hold the seven keys to my soul’ necklace, and the ‘When doves cry’ earrings. Every piece on her site is so reasonably priced, you wouldn’t need to worry about breaking the bank if you were looking to buy yourself a few items 🙂 Which always helps! Over priced jewellery just makes me wonder… why?! But to be fair, I’d always be willing anyway to pay that little bit more for hand crafted items. It’s just that bit more special.

Wearing silver and gold makes me feel VERY grown up! And Sarahs pieces are so cute and simple, even a necklace like the one above isnt a problem for a tattooed gal like myself. I am really limited to what necklaces I actually can wear (normally just pendants) cause it ends up looking far too cluttered around the boobage area.

Another thing is, I love swallows (duh) but really can’t wear swallow jewellery because then I end up looking like a really keen idiot! Which is why I am in love with the dove earrings, ohhh yes.Very simple and I can totally get away with them, without you even noticing my slight cukoo obsession (please excuse the pun)

In my opinion I feel like Sarah’s collection so far really does have something for everyone. Especially fussy, awkward and picky jewellery wearers like myself. My most immediate and honest impression is that these pieces are very lovingly handmade, and quite robust for being so dainty so I know they wont fall apart after a few times wearing them, or getting caught on your jumper etc (HATE it when that happens. Not naming anyone coughACCESSORIZEcough)

Here is the link to Sarahs Etsy. She has also set up a discount code for readers of The Little Blog Of Horrors – so if you’d like 10% off then enter LITTLEBLOGOFHORRORS at the check out, and hey presto. Dont mind if I do! It is valid until Dec 15th, which gives you plenty time to stock up on some christmas presents if you havent been able to venture out in this awful snow.

Please let me know if you end up ordering anything 🙂 and if you’re just going for a nosy, then tell me what your fave piece is from the site ♥ And if you know any more bloggers who craft and sell, link me! I really mean it when I say this kind of thing is important. You are a crazy mad creative bunch, in so many different and wonderful ways and I heart you all!

Ayden x
