This is my day off sweatshirt… but today is the first day in months which has actually felt like a day off. A lovely chilled and selfish Sunday has been just what I’ve needed. Since my last blog post in April, so much has been happening. I felt it was about time to give you a little round up/update of where the hell I’ve been and what I’ve been up to.
Had a ball at my besties festival themed 30th birthday
My best gal Gemma turned 30 in April, and she threw a fantastic festival themed party which she really went all out for (Gem should be a professional party planner – that gal doesn’t do things in halves!) There was a silent disco, live music, festival food, and a glitter bar. I’d not been crafty in ages (apart from at work) so it was great fun designing G’s invites and lanyards for her guests, and I also got to sign paint this directions post for her too. It made me want to get back into painting again. If I can’t find the time then I’ll sure as hell just need to make it.
We held our evening wedding reception

In May we finally had part 2 of our wedding, and held our evening reception at the Oran Mor in the west end of Glasgow. It was such a fantastic night, being able to celebrate this time with my family and friends present. PLUS I got to wear my dress again! I’ve only had a few sneak peek photos from our wonderful photographer Corinne, but I can’t wait to see the rest as she did such a fantastic job and really went above and beyond before, after and on the night. Reuben did so well staying up late for his first proper party too. Highlight of the evening was falling on my arse during the traditional ‘Loch Lomond’ dance (where the guests circle around the bride and groom, happens at 99% of scottish weddings!) with a lovely bruise the next morning to show for it. I shall do a separate blog post and share more pics once I have them.
I had a miscarriage a couple of weeks after

Yeah… so this was a tough one. If you follow me on instagram you will probably already know by now, but the week after our wedding reception I found out I was pregnant, and the week after that I was admitted to A&E late one evening as I had started to miscarry. I was around 5/6 weeks when I lost our little baby. Heartbroken doesn’t even come close to be honest. I might do a full blog post about it in the future, as the solidarity and support I have been given so far while being open and sharing our story has been absolutely amazing. I also found reading about other peoples experience to be really reassuring and comforting. I’m not quite ready to write about it in detail just yet, but I know I will be one day. Me, Pete and Reuben also all caught Norovirus a few days later, and we fell like dominoes one after the other. That was HORRID. My whole body felt totally broken by the end of that week. I honestly wished I could trade it in and get a new one.
I enjoyed a lovely couple of months working for CBBC
The week of my miscarriage I had just started working for CBBC on a show called Molly & Mack. Luckily I was surrounded by a super understanding team who did everything possible to help me and make me feel supported at work. The job was fantastic, and Pete and Reuben even came in to be supporting artists one day of filming! Reuben loves the show, and I look forward to embarrassing him with this photo when he’s older, of the day he met Josh (Mack) and was absolutely raging about it haha. I have finished up now and have two weeks off before my next job. Need to keep tight lipped about it just now but OMG I am excited, it’s gonna be a good one. Watch this space…
I went to see the Spice Girls

Throwing it right back to 10 year old Ayden dancing to Wannabe in her Grannies living room… in June me and the gals went through to Murrayfield in Edinburgh to see the Spice Girls in concert! They put on a fantastic show from start to finish, and the predicted rain even stayed off. We all dressed appropriately for the occasion too. Bronson didn’t come to the gig but he fancied a wee selfie before I left.
My nearest and dearest threw me a surprise garden party for my 30th birthday
My 30th birthday was a tuesday, so the team at work treated me to flowers, cake and a very embarrassing rendition of Happy Birthday in front of the entire cast and crew (anyone else feel like they’re slowly dying inside when a group of people sing happy birthday to you?) I’d been so busy with work that all we had planned the weekend after was a quiet dinner at a local restaurant with Pete. OR SO I THOUGHT. I came home from some Saturday shopping in town to find that I had been thrown a surprise garden party. I am a pretty hard person to surprise, but I was genuinely so shocked at this (well done you lot!) The amount of detail and beautiful decorations, and delicious food and drink just blew me away. The sunny afternoon turned into a beautiful summer evening, and I drank prosecco until sunset, wrapped up in a blanket in front of the fire pit with my favourite people. Not a bad start to my 30th year, that’s for sure.

So despite the recent ups and downs, I’m still standing. I survived working a 60 hour week for two months while juggling a baby and housework. I survived sitting in the A&E waiting room in floods of tears, having a panic attack knowing that I was miscarrying there and then but that the doctors couldn’t see me any quicker. I have been pushed to the very edge mentally and physically in a few short months, experiencing extreme highs and extreme lows. It has all felt a tad bittersweet. But I turn 30 feeling stronger than ever, knowing myself more than I ever have before. I have my husband to thank for a lot of this as he has been my absolute rock, and carried me through the days where I just needed to be held and feel safe. Halfway through the year, I feel like the page has closed on one chapter and I have started fresh with a completely new one. It feels scary, but good. And I have a lot to be excited about and thankful for in the second half of this year. So, bring it on! ♥
