So on my little shopping trip on Saturday I decided to take a wander into Mac and see what the deal was with the new collection, A Tartan Tale. Being very scottish and very proud – how could I resist? This is what I ended up buying (the makeup justification excuses are wearing thin people…)
Cut a Caper Lipstick. So lovely! Really subtle and easy to wear. ‘Nuff said 🙂
Pearlglide intense liner in ‘Undercurrent’. Has to be my most favourite colour EVER. A really rich teal-esque green. Just been wearing it on my lower waterline for a little splash of colour on boring week day eyes.
A staple – Fluidline in Blacktrack. Having this new little pot made me realise how dried out and hard to use my last one was, ugh! I was determined to scrape the jar clean, but in some mad effort to get a bit of life back into it after I hadn’t used it for a while, I depotted it (which was a bad idea) The new one is so silky and smooth and easy to apply with my wobbly hands.
‘A Lady and Her Tricks’ Buff and Line Brush Collection.
L-R 187SE, 168SE, 252SE, 219SE and 209SE.
And translated from the Mac lady, that is basically a foundation brush, blusher brush, all over eyeshadow brush, blending brush and eyeliner brush. No idea what I’m going to use the tartan bag for, it even has a long strap! To suggest wearing out and about… hmm. Not too sure about that one. It is kinda cute though. But maybe just ‘hanging randomly in my bedroom’ kinda cute.
I know FOTD’s should be a bit closer up, but here is what I bought in the flesh!
(excuse the awkward pose – I am aware I look like I’m doing the chicken dance. And yes, the fringe is back with a vengance!)
The foundation brush really is better than a flat foundation brush I had before – I never used to believe people when they said ohh its better than using your fingers, airbrushed finish etc etc and could never achieve it with the flat brush. But this one is SO much better and made my foundation go really far!
The blusher brush is lovely, soft enough but firm enough if that makes sense and the slightly angled shape helps to blush up those little apples very effortlessly. I was super impressed.
I’ve been trying to master eye makeup for quite a while now, and I can’t believe this is me only finally giving in to ‘proper’ brushes – and actually using them for what they’re meant for! So hopefully practise will make perfect.
However, after giving my makeup drawers a wee spring clean on sunday I am now left with a couple of used, but still GOOD doublers. So I was thinking of selling:
Angled Models Own brush (perfect for gel eyeliner)
Mac 252SE (good for all over eyeshadow, base colour perhaps)
Mac 209SE (also an eyeliner brush)
Oh, and also a little mini bare minerals kabuki brush which I forgot to picture – sorry!
As you can see they are used but I have cleaned them up as nice as I could 🙂 still in perfect working order, so if you’d fancy trying out a few brushes on the cheap before you take the plunge and invest in a certain brand etc then this is your chance. I have ebay fee’s to pay soon which is all I’m wanting to cover so I’m thinking £5 inc p&p for the 4, if anyones interested? If you are, first come first served so leave a comment below with your email address!
So, now let me ask you a couple of questions.
How much, if at all, do you use/rely on makeup brushes and what brand?
What do you clean them with, and how often?
Cheers me dears, hope everyone is having an alright week so far ♥
Ayden x

I always use a big brush to put on my powder and my blush. Sadly, I don't remember if I've ever washed mine. I love your cute shirt!

Gadz….I was in stroking the brushes today lovingly. I love the packaging. I'm not blown away by anything…but the packaging is pretty amaze. I've got a mix of brushes, mac, bobbi brown…etc. Try clean them when I can but I'm totally useless and end up using my hands instead. Boo.

My favorite brushes are from Sigma however it is a pain in the bum for us as we have to order them from the US (however love-makeup sell a few sigma brushes) To clean my brushes I always used to use MAC brush cleanser however I tried the two ELF cleansers this week and I really like them at a smidge of the cost! xx

The whole lot is just so tempting isn't it? I popped in last week to look at something for a giveaway I'm doing in December and could easily have bought the whole lot. It's a tad disappointing that the packaging on all the single items wasn't tartan though 🙁

Elf do a great spray brush cleanser and then once a week( or when I can be arsed) I wash them properly with baby shampoo x

Hee-hee these are so quirky and fab I love them.
You look super cute with a fringe, I miss mine. Yours looks so full of shine.
Oh I have gave up on black track, had 4 pots over a year and a half and decided to try liquid liner and i LOVE it so far. Was just sick of it drying it so fast BUT might go back to the old fave some day xx

I've never been in the habit of using my fingers. My brushes are mostly from the elf studio range and I just Johnson's baby shampoo to clean them!
I have tagged you for an award on my blog, by the way 🙂 x

Looks lovely. I've not looked at them yet. I've only just received my venomous villains order due to DHL being complete pains in the backside.

you look adorbz!
November 11, 2010 at 8:15 pmI never clean my brushes which is naughty, I only really use a 'blush' one and i use that for pressed powder – I suck at applying makeup! xx
franki
Those brushes are LOVELY! They're so shiny – I wouldn't want to get them dirty lol!
November 13, 2010 at 2:30 pmI love makeup brushes and use them for everything, though I only use cheapie ones really, like Gosh, Models Own, No 7 etc – I'd like to try the MAC ones but they're that bit more expensive and the one's I've got are fine, so I'm not too fussed. I think you're supposed to wash brushes pretty much every time you use them, but seriously, who's got the time to do that?! I wash mine every couple of weeks (or when I remember…) and I just use whatever shampoo I've got. xxx

Ooo I love the eyeliner it's so pretty. And the tartan bag is just fab. I think I need one in my life also x
